Thought-Provoking Essays

I have a habit of reflecting on my week during every weekend. During this reflection time, I think about what went much better than I expected, what could have been improved, and much more. The purpose of it is to avoid "resulting" (or believing that there is too tight of a relationship between the quality of your decisions and the quality of the outcomes) as well as to remind myself of how my weekly actions relate to my overarching goals. It has been immensely helpful because I did not do very much deep reflection before. In order to prepare for these reflections, I try to read an essay which contains important ideas that I want to keep in mind while reflecting. I'm including some of these essays below in case you'd also like to remind yourself of interesting ideas.

Ben Kuhn discusses that the essence of becoming a better listener isn't about applying arbitrary "strategies", but rather to get curious about the conversation that you're in.

How to Be Successful

Although this title has "click-bait" vibes, the advice given in this list is some of the most powerful that I've read among similar lists. It is definitely worth rereading this short article on a regular basis.

Charlie Munger does an interest thing in this speech to the graduating class of a prep school. Rather than give a speech about the ways to be happy in life after school, he inverts the traditional talk and describes things to do if you want to be unhappy in life.

This speech is inspired by one given by the great comedian, Johnny Carson.
